Which came first, the chicken, or the egg? This crazy riddle has no answer: it is infinitely recursive. That is, it has no logical beginning. If this puzzle is approached in a different manner, though, there can be a better, more satisfying answer...
With many animals, to be newborn is to experience frailty and helplessness - and in this immaturity, a baby requires a parent in order to survive. This concept presents a new way of reasoning: gone is the "so what existed before that?" train of thought.
The logic is simple: a chick that hatches from an egg, with no mother present, dies. However, if a chick hatches in the presence of a pre-existing mother, it will thrive.
So, at least from this viewpoint, it was the chicken that came first.
