Arena of Doom:
Playable Game
Arena of Doom is an MS-DOS application. MS-DOS is normally a part of the Windows
operating system. It would be convenient if the situation were that simple. Many of
the newer versions of Windows treat MS-DOS differently than some of the older versions.
Near the end of the page below there is a link offering the opportunity to download, to
one's hard drive, the Arena of Doom files necessary to play the game. As of the current
moment, the link has been disabled (so as to not burden those with newer versions of
Windows with a game that does not work).
Given the time I can find, I am working on a version of Arena of Doom that will
run successfully on newer versions of Windows. My advice: pay this page a visit from time
to time, and click on the download link near the end of the page. If there is a response,
you will know that the downloaded file will work regardless of the version of Windows
your computer is using.
"What speed must my computer's processor be to run Arena of Doom?" The answer to
this question is that Arena of Doom will run on a computer possessing a processor of
any speed whatsoever! An algorithm has been programmed into the game, you see, that
detects how fast the computer runs, and then executes the game at a speed that agrees
with the computer.
"How do I download an executable copy of Arena of Doom?" To download your
own copy of Arena of Doom to your hard drive, go through the following steps:
(Feel free to write any of these steps down if necessary. If you are familiar with
downloading compressed files, feel equally free to work through the downloading
process on your own).
Agree upon the folder on your hard drive you wish to copy
Arena of Doom to, or create a folder for that purpose if needed.
Click on the highlighted "download ARENA.ZIP" link found below.
A window appears asking what you want to do with the file being
downloaded. Choose Save, specifying that you want to save the file to
disk.
Another window appears so that you can specify the folder you want
to save the file to. Select the folder you agreed upon in step 1, then
choose Save.
Find and open a file decompression program on your computer such as
WinZip. If you cannot find WinZip, press the "Start" button on the
Windows desktop.
Choose "Find" from the Start Menu. Click "Files or Folders". In the
"Named" text box, type in "WinZip". Click "Find Now".
If you find an
application whose name begins with "WinZip", right click the name of
the application file, then click "Open" from the menu that appears.
If you cannot find such a WinZip application file on your computer, you
have 2 options. Firstly, you can use any other file decompression
programs you might know of as being on your computer, or, if you
cannot find any, continue to try to find other
decompression programs on your computer by typing in and entering other
search terms in the "Find Now" box. If such a program is found,
right click the name of the
application file, then click "Open" from the menu that appears.
Lastly, you can connect to the Internet, type in the
Internet address www.winzip.com, and then download and install
the WinZip program offered there. Once the program is installed,
you can activate the program by either performing the procedure
described in step 6, or by choosing "Programs" from the Start
Menu, and then finding and running the program using the "Programs"
menus.
Once the file decompression program is up and running, use the
program to find or specify the folder that you saved ARENA.ZIP to.
Once that folder is specified, use the program to find ARENA.ZIP
within that folder.
Next, use the program to specify that you want to decompress, or
"unzip", ARENA.ZIP into the same folder you downloaded ARENA.ZIP
into.
A message appears telling you that 2 files have been successfully
created.
Arena of Doom is now ready to be played.
If it was your wish, you should now have a playable copy of Arena of Doom
